Xiaomi Mi 9 and the Mi 9 Transparent Edition were made official by the Chinese phone maker today at a launch event in China. Mi 9 is the company’s first triple camera and the fastest wireless charging of any phone yet. The phone is available in Lavender Violet, Ocean Blue and Piano Black color options along with the Transparent Edition.
The Mi 9 Transparent Edition has almost the same internal specifications as the Mi 9. The differences are the hefty 12GB RAM and 256GB storage. Also, the Mi 9 Transparent Edition has a translucent back, similar to the Mi 8 Explorer Edition.
Xiaomi Mi 9 Specifications
The dual-SIM Xiaomi Mi 9 runs MIUI 10 Android out-of-the-box, and sports a 6.39-inch Super AMOLED display with a waterdrop notch on top. The smartphone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC, coupled with 6GB/ 8GB of RAM and 128GB of inbuilt storage. As mentioned before, the Transparent edition comes with 12GB of RAM and 256GB storage. The processor has two Kryo 485 cores clocked at 2.84GHz, two additional Kyro 485 cores clocked at 2.42GHz and four Kryo 485 cores clocked at 1.8GHz. The processor is paired with Adreno 640 GPU. The device features Game Turbo mode for the better gaming experience. The Dark Mode can be used to reduce power usage by up to 83%. The Always-On Display now supports colorful patterns to improve the look of the device.
In terms of optics, the Mi 9 sports a triple rear camera setup with a 48-megapixel primary sensor 12-megapixel telephoto camera and a 16-megapixel wide-angle camera. On the front, the handset has an upgraded 24-megapixel selfie camera with certain AI capabilities. There is a 3,500mAh battery under the hood, with support for Qualcomm 20W fast wireless charging. The company calls it Charge Turbo and it can deliver up to 27W over USB-C. However, the standard retail package comes with an 18W charger instead (similar to the Mi 8). The smartphone bundled with a 27W wired charger. A 20W wireless car charger will also be available.
The Mi 9’ in-display fingerprint reader can be used with Google Pay thanks to the NFC connectivity. There’s also a dual-frequency GPS and an IR blaster.

The Mi 9, on the other hand, goes on sale for RMB 2,999 (approx. Rs 31,800) for the variant with 6 GB RAM and 128 GB storage model, RMB 3,299 (approx. Rs 35,000 for the 8GB RAM and 128GB storage variant RMB 3,599 (approx. Rs 38,100) for the Transparent edition with 12 GB RAM and 256 GB storage variant.
No word yet on whether either of the two variants of the Mi 9 are being brought to India or whether they will be launched globally. We have to wait for the MWC 2019 event to know more about the smartphone.
