After Oppo’s sub-brand RealMe, here comes to another sub-brand from popular budget-smartphone maker Xiaomi. The sub-brand has been named as Poco.

Jai Mani has been appointed as the lead product manager for POCO. Mani had served Google for almost four years before joining Xiaomi as the lead product manager for India operations in 2014.

“As a small outfit within Xiaomi, POCO has the freedom to start from scratch, zeroing in on the product choices that matter. For the first product, we got back to basics and focus entirely on speed. Not just peak performance speed, but actual, real-world speed,” Mani said in a statement Friday.

The executive said that the prices of flagship smartphones have gone past the $1000 (Rs 69,000) mark, while the pace of innovation has slowed down. “We have set out to build something to buck this trend”.

He added that the new brand will be backed by supply chain, operations and service infrastructure of Xiaomi, currently locked in an intense tussle with Korea’s Samsung for the top spot in overall smartphones in India, the world’s second-largest market.

Poco will clearly not be an India exclusive brand, as can make sense of from its Twitter handle ‘GlobalPocophone’. No other information about the sub-brand Poco has been made official starting at now. Online reports, be that as it may, the sub-brand’s first-ever phone in India named the Pocophone F1.

However, the leaked unboxing by Vnstube video shows that the upcoming Pocophone F1 will feature a 4000 mAh battery, 20 mega pixels front camera, and IR face unlock. At the bottom, the phone has a headphone jack and a USB type C port.

Additionally, Pocophone F1 features a dual camera setup with 1.4-micron large pixels and dual pixel autofocus on the primary sensor. Furthermore, the front camera will have a Super Pixel technology. The device will also sport a notch on the top.

Coming to the expected price of Pocophone F1, the PCGarage.ro has listed the Pocophone F1 for 999 RON. This is approximately Rs. 34,200 in India. However, early buyers can grab the smartphone for just 899 RON (Rs. 30,800 approx.) for a limited time. The device is said to be available only in Graphite color option.

Xiaomi may launch the sub-brand’s Pocophone F1 as early as October this year in India.
