WhatsApp Brings Dark Mode and Fingerprint Authentication Feature for Android Beta Version

| By DWR Editor

We have seen numerous leaks and rumors surrounding WhatsApp Dark Mode, but we can finally confirm that the feature is ready to roll out on Android at least. The latest beta version of WhatsApp (v2.19.83) has the Dark Mode and Fingerprint Authentication Feature. However, WhatsApp will be rolling this out in phases and it will take a few days to roll out to all users.

No doubt, the Dark mode on WhatsApp is a much-awaited feature and it will become instantly popular among the users of the app for sure. Recently, Facebook Messenger also got the Dark Mode feature.

As you can see in the image (Courtesy WABetaInfo) the new ‘dark mode’ will use a dark grey background color. This new dark setting provides the user with a darker UI and it will give the improved readability of text and the better contrast in the app.

Fingerprint Authentication feature is also there in the new WhatsApp Beta update. Users can enable it in Settings >Account >Privacy > Use Fingerprint to Unlock after registering your fingerprint. After enabling the fingerprint on WhatsApp, you can configure when the Authentication feature should lock the app: Immediately, After 1 minute, After 10 minutes or after 30 minutes.

This feature was introduced on iOS recently and the user can also unlock the app using facial recognition via Face ID.

How to Enable Dark Mode and Fingerprint Authentication Feature on WhatsApp?

For now, WhatsApp has rolled out the feature only to Android Beta users and after rigorous testing, these features will be added to the stable version of WhatsApp. The WhatsApp Beta for Android v2.19.83 has both Dark Mode and Fingerprint Authentication features. Those who are already registered on the WhatsApp Beta programme can head over to Google Play Store to download the latest version and check whether the dark mode for WhatsApp is enabled or not. Else you can wait for the stable update.
