On the annual AGM, Reliance Jio announced Jio GigaFibre service along with the Jio Phone 2. JioGigaFiber is the new broadband service providing connectivity via optical fiber. For JioGigaFiber, the company has announced GigaRouter and GigaTV set-top box. Moreover, Jio made a promise of JioGigaFiber setup in the buyer’s home within an hour.
As India lags behind significantly in fixed-line broadband connectivity and positioned at 134th in fixed-line broadband, JioGigaFiber service goal is to provide ultra-high speed internet up to 1Gbps, smart home solutions, 4K and HD content, voice control. Jio is currently testing the trials of JioGigaFiber in around 1,000 homes of the metro cities in India. From the August 15, users who want to try the JioGigaFibre service will be able to start registering through the official MyJio app and the company’s official website Jio.com. Jio will start rolling out its broadband service to localities with the highest number of registrations in India as stated by the company.
The company said that the service will be rolled out in 1,100 cities and Jio says that the GigaFibre service will be the world’s largest greenfield fixed-line broadband. Furthermore, the JioGigaFiber service will let the users enjoy some additional services such as Ultra-HD entertainment on large screen TVs, multi-party video conferencing, voice-activated virtual assistant, VR gaming, digital shopping, and of course, smart home solutions. Jio claims that the JioGigaRouter and JioGigaTV Set-top Box will allow users to call from one TV to another, provided it too is connected by JioGigaFiber network. Also, the JioGigaTV can be accessed through the voice command on the remote itself. Jio says that voice command will be available in different regional languages.
Along with these services, Jio also announced the smart home accessories includes the audio and video dongle, smart speaker, Wi-Fi extender, smart plug, TV camera and more. All these smart accessories will be managed via MyJio app.
