Vivo has incorporated a pop-up camera module that slides in and out from the top of the smartphone whenever required. Apart from that, the Vivo’s futuristic in-display fingerprint scanning technology is another important factor to achieve such bezel-less form-factor.

Vivo Nex is most appreciable for sporting 6.6-inch FHD+ AMOLED screen and its unusual weight. Vivo has managed to offer a complete edge-to-edge display experience without the notch, and negligibly thin bezels. With full HD+ resolution, 2316×1080 pixels and a taller 19.3:9 aspect ratio. It has a screen to body ratio of 91.24 percent.

The Screen with utmost brightness with good color reproduction which has a 86% percent screen-to-body ratio which is higher than the iPhone X and probably the only phone with a near bezel-less display where you enjoy movies, games in a bigger screen.

Camera That Pops-Up

The Vivo worked best in its unique front camera placement. Instead of going with notch design which trending now, Vivo has managed to fit the camera within the module of the phone at the top, which pops up whenever needed.

Vivo Nex packs a front camera with a motorized module that opens and closes while clicking a selfie. This selfie camera is an 8-megapixel unit with the fixed aperture of f/2.0 integrated. As soon as you open the camera app and switch to the front camera, it mechanically pops up, and retract back when you close the app or switch to rear cameras.

It is also packed up with features like Beauty Mode that enhances the picture quality, as claimed by the brand.

Where’s the earpiece?

Not only the popup camera is the only futuristic design element that Vivo has incorporated to achieve the bezel-less form factor. Vivo had to make way for newer technologies, and this meant removing the earpiece too. Now you got a question, how can it transmit audio? Well, Vivo does that by using ‘Screen SoundCasting’ technology that converts your entire display into a speaker. It works on the principle of bone conduction technology. The in-call audio quality sounds different at first as compared to a traditional earpiece. The phone also indicates you to position your ear at a specific spot for better audio output during a call.

In-display fingerprint scanner

Present for unlocking the smartphone most of them rely on finger fingerprint scanners, and now face unlock is getting popular. Vivo did it in an innovative way biometric-authentication is the in-display fingerprint scanning. The Vivo X21 was the first commercial smartphone to come with the tech, and now the same continues with the NEX as well. The Nex comes with a circular area where you have to place your finger to unlock the smartphone.

As far as other specifications are considered, The handset is powered by Qualcomm’s top of the line processor i.e. Snapdragon 845. The chipset has been paired with 8GB of RAM and 128/256GB of internal storage. It bears a dual camera set up at the back with a primary 12-MP f/1.8 sensor and a secondary 5-megapixel one for depth. The camera also has Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) and PDAF (phase-detection autofocus). Both the cameras come with a host of features to make the imaging experience excellent for the phone’s users.

As for the battery, the smartphone is backed by a 4000mAh battery with ‘Dual Engine’ fast charging support.

Verdict :

Vivo came up with a quite surprising concept design into a working end-user model in such a short span of time. It can be said that Nex is the full-fledged flagship smartphone from Vivo and we expect the brand to bring more innovative and performance driven mass products in the coming future. The Vivo Nex is an attempt to show the world that it can design phones beyond offering just good selfie cameras.
