At the press conference of the Xinhua news agency, the prototype Vivo NEX 5G was presented at the Qualcomm booth. As expected, this device will be powered by a Snapdragon 855 chipset with an X50 LTE modem, which allows 5G connectivity.
At the recent 2018 China Mobile Global Partner Conference, various Chinese smartphone makers, such as OPPO, Xiaomi and Vivo had showcased the 5G smartphones. In the same time, Vivo also shown the 5G version of the Vivo NEX phone. The same prototype will now be announced at the events mentioned above.
In August, Vivo confirmed that the development of the Vivo NEX 5G was completed. In fact, Vivo was one of the earliest OEMs to establish 5G R&D in China, starting with a centre in Beijing in 2016.
Vivo plans to launch a 5G smartphone early next year and will most likely be at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in February. Tech Expo will be held in Barcelona, Spain. In addition to Vivo, other smartphone makers are expected to release 5G devices with Snapdragon 855.
