The Indian Government asked Google and Apple to remove Tik Tok from their respective stores. The Ministry of Electronics and IT released this order after the Supreme Courts judgment on Tamil Nadu requesting to stop this application.

The recent order from the government won’t prevent the people who already installed the app from using it, but it will prevent users to download further.

After many reports which surfaced online that the youth has been using this application to troll and mock politicians and policemen. In recent days, it is also identified that this trending application is spreading pornographic and inappropriate content. The High Court of Madras already prohibited media companies from telecasting the videos which are posted on the application indicating that the content of the application is ” “inappropriate for children.”

A week ago, Bytedance, owner of TikTok announced that more than 6 million videos are removed from the platform which violated the community guidelines and terms of use. The company won’t be solely responsible for the content posted by the third parties on the platform. The company also requested for a stay on the ban of the application, mentioning that it could damage the company and also would harm free speech in India.

TikTok also stated in an email that they continuously work in enhancing the moderation process of videos posted on the platform to keep the application user-friendly and community friendly.

TikTok is one of the most downloaded applications over the past few quarters with a huge new user base from India.

Neither Google nor Apple responded to the Government orders of removing the application from the respective stores on their platforms.
