With its good quality and mid-range pricing, Xiaomi phones became an instant hit and the perfect phone to upgrade for the low-end phone users. Other manufacturers like RealMe, Asus, and Honor also followed suit with their own attempts at making powerful mid-rangers. To take on all these, Samsung has decided to launch M series phones with attractive price tag and features. Priced from Rs 10,990 onwards, the Samsung Galaxy M20 has specifications and features as its key selling point. It’s offering a strong product with the numbers to back it while keeping the price low enough for mass market sales.
The Galaxy M20 will find itself in a market segment that is currently flooded with value-for-money options from manufacturers including Xiaomi, RealMe, Asus.
Here are our first impressions on Samsung Galaxy M20.
Design and Display
The Galaxy M20 takes the new Infinity-V display and it has an impressive over 90 percent screen-to-body ratio with a 6.3-inch full HD+ TFT 19.5:9 TFT display. The display itself is bright and sharp and offers good color reproduction. The new notch shaped like a dewdrop takes up much less space and allows more icons to fit in the status bar. Galaxy M20 has dual-rear camera setup and fingerprint sensor on the back with the company branding. Speaker grilles, headphone jack, and Type-C port are located at the bottom. Volume and power buttons are on the right edge.
The device feels heavy in hand. It may due to the massive 5000mAh battery. The phone feels good in the hand although it is quite prone to fingerprint smudges.

User interface
Samsung Galaxy M20 comes with a Samsung Experience v9.5 which is based on Android 8.1.0 Oreo. The OS appears to be refined and lightweight. Moreover, it’s responsive and works quite well. We faced no difficulties while navigating from one application to another. The company redesigned app icons and lots of customization its OS to improve the user experience. Compared to the Xiaomi’s MIUI, Huawei’s EMUI, the Samsung Experience looks well-polished. However, Samsung can opt to reduce the number of pre-installed apps it bundles on its devices. Particularly, for mid-range phones like Galaxy M, it could have made an exception.
Camera
Samsung Galaxy M20 equipped with two rear cameras featuring 13-megapixel sensor with f1/.9 aperture and a 5-megapixel 120-degree wide-angle sensor. The camera features panorama, pro, beauty, live focus, auto, stickers and burst shot. The camera has a toggle to shift between wide-angle and main camera just like recently launched Galaxy A9. The wide-angle lens allows you to take wider-real estate. The secondary 5-megapixel sensor could have been much better. Samsung’s live focus feature is available on both the rear and the front-facing cameras. However, it is too early to judge the camera performance on the Galaxy M20 but it does look promising.
First Impressions
Overall, the Galaxy M20 undercuts most of the competition and provides a good bang for the buck. It certainly feels more premium. The device also quite fast and snappy thanks to the Exynos 7904 octa-core chip. At this price tag, obviously, the new Samsung Galaxy M20 is a powerful choice.
