It’s the end of an era for Yahoo Messenger. After 20 Years of service popular messenger in olden days, Yahoo Messenger is closing its operations. Yahoo Messenger was one among the prolific chat application since its debut in March 1998. In its heyday, Yahoo Messenger was thoroughly competing with other chat applications such as Microsoft Messenger, AIM. No other chat service came near to Yahoo Messenger in that time.
From July 17th, Yahoo Messenger users will never again have the ability to get to their chats and the users will never again be accessible to Yahoo Messenger. However, as reported by Yahoo, users can download the chat history to the PC or any other device for the following a half year.
Before the arrival of instant messaging applications and other kinds of social networking services, Yahoo Messenger was only the popular platform for messaging. Now the disappearing of Yahoo Messenger isn’t surprising because tremendous usage of social media and chat applications, users are continuously looking for the change in the communication which fits their need. So, it is clear that Yahoo Messenger also failed to compete with WhatsApp, Facebook. Yahoo will always be remembered for being the prime in instant messaging.
Yahoo stated in the blog that “As of now, the replacement for Yahoo Messenger isn’t available. We’re constantly experimenting with new services and apps, one of which is an invite-only group messaging app called Yahoo Squirrel. Users Yahoo ID will remain intact for services like mail and fantasy sports”. So, we can expect something new and surprising from Yahoo Messenger.
Even though, the shutdown of Yahoo Messenger doesn’t affect a lot because we have better alternatives. Still, Yahoo will be remembered for being the epic messaging platform in our childhood.
