Xiaomi, a Chinese smartphone maker will launch Redmi S2 in the Indian market on June 7. According to the teasers posted by the company on its social media pages, the upcoming device will be the “BEST” selfie smartphone thanks to a bunch of artificial intelligence (AI) powered proprietary features and a new front-facing camera sensor that comes in a 2-micron pixel size. Xiaomi Redmi S2 marks the introduction of the Redmi S series that is likely targeting the selfie lovers.
Why Redmi S2 to Y2
As per the official teaser video, which was posted by Redmi India Twitter account on Monday, the new Redmi launch is scheduled for June 7 in New Delhi. The Twitter handle for Redmi India has posted a small video with the following message, “Every step in your life is defined by a selfie. Find yourself, #FindYourSelfie…The BEST selfie smartphone is arriving soon.” The teaser video also says ‘The #RealYou smartphone is coming. Redmi smartphone launch 7th June | New Delhi.” The video puts an emphasis on the letter Y, which is colored red throughout the video, thus indicating that the Redmi S2 will continue with the Y series when it launches.

The dual –SIM handset sports with Android-based MIUI 9 will feature with a 5.99-inch 720 x 1440 HD+ resolution display with an 18:9 aspect ratio and a 2.5D curved glass layer on top. Xiaomi claims the panel used in the Redmi S2 offers a peak brightness of 450 nits and a contrast ratio of 1000:1. Powered by a Snapdragon 625 SoC, coupled with up to 4GB of RAM, It claims to come in two variants 32GB and 64GB – that both are expandable via microSD card (up to 256GB) via a dedicated slot. Importantly, the Redmi Y1 also has a dedicated microSD card slot to separately give users the space for two SIM cards. The Redmi S2 also has 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth v4.2, GPS/ A-GPS, 3.5mm headphone jack, and Micro-USB port and packs a 3080mAh battery.
As far of camera specs, it has a dual rear camera setup with a 12-megapixel primary sensor and a 5-megapixel secondary sensor. Further, it has a 16-megapixel sensor on the front with supports features such as AI Portrait Mode, AI Smart Beauty, Front HDR, and Face Unlock.
Expected Pricing
As price details about the Redmi Y2 yet not revealed. According to price in china, The Xiaomi Redmi S2 with 3GB RAM and 32GB onboard storage comes with a price tag of CNY 999 (approximately Rs. 10,600), while its 4GB RAM/ 64GB storage variant is priced at CNY 1,299 (around Rs. 13,700). Both variants will go on sale in China starting May 17 in Champagne Gold, Platinum Silver, and Rose Gold color options.
