Redmi Note 5 Pro with Android Pie Appears on Geekbench

| By DWR Editor

Last year, Xiaomi launched camera centric phone Redmi Note 5 Pro which belongs to a mid-range segment. Now, the handset has appeared on the GeekBench listing running Android 9 Pie. Seems like Xiaomi is gradually progressing with Redmi Note 5/Note 5 Pro software update. Redmi Note 5 Pro was released with Android 7.1.2 Nougat and was updated to Android 8.1 Oreo about six months ago.

Moreover, along with this, another smartphone spotted on Geekbench with Snapdragon 660 SoC. This doesn’t seem to be an error on Geekbench as the base frequency is same as other Snapdragon 660 phones, such as Mi 8 Lite and Mi A2. However, its scores are lower. This version of Redmi Note 5 Pro also has 3 GB of RAM and runs on Android 8.1 Oreo.

So, the Redmi Note 5 Pro with Snapdragon 660 is the first product and may become a new variant of Xiaomi immediately available on the market. Or it may be a completely different phone. It could be a Mi A2 or Mi 8 Lite.

The chance of becoming Mi 8 Lite is higher than Mi A2. This is because Xiaomi recently updated Mi A2 to Android 9 Pie. Xiaomi announced the coming of Android 9 Pie to Mi A2 through a tweet which mentioned, “Android 9 Pie is finally here! Mi A2 will be the first of our Android One phones to receive the update from 18 Dec! Get ready for all Android 9 Pie features! RT if you have your slice of the Pie now! #MiA2 #Android9Pie #Android9 #AndroidPie.
