After the Redmi Note 8 series launch, Xiaomi seems to be gearing up for another smartphone launch, the Redmi 8A in the affordable segment. Ahead of the unveiling, the device has been spotted on Chinese certification website TENAA with images and specs. The Redmi 8A will be a successor to the Redmi 7A that was launched just a few months ago.
As per the TENAA listing, the Redmi 8A will come with a waterdrop notch above the screen, which will be home to the selfie camera. The back panel of the phone seems to feature a single camera at the top with an LED flash below it. At the center of the device so is the ‘Redmi’ branding. The back of the phone seems plastic panel in blue color. The images do not show any fingerprint sensor on the back as it is a budget phone.
Unfortunately, the specifications of the device are not mentioned on TENAA. The device has appeared on TENAA with model number ‘M1908C3KE’. Only things that are mentioned TENAA listing are 4G LTE connectivity, dual-SIM card slots, and OS. As per the previous reports, the Redmi 8A will come equipped with 6.2-inch HD+ display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 SoC, and a 5,000mAh battery. The phone is tipped to launch with 4GB of RAM and 64GB internal memory.
According to the reports, the Redmi 8A will come equipped with a single 12-megapixel rear camera with an LED flash and an 8-megapixel sensor on the front for selfies. The TENAA listing shows that there will be a total of three cameras on the handset, which hints that the Redmi 8A might feature an infrared sensor.
It’s not clear when exactly Xiaomi is planning to launch the phone. Also, there is no information available regarding the price. To recall, the predecessor Redmi 7A base variant with 2GB RAM+16GB storage was launched in India at Rs 5,999, while the top model with 2GB RAM+32GB storage is priced at Rs 6,199.
