Realme 2 vs Realme 1: Here’s who takes the cake

| By Shandilya

The Realme 2 which was launched just before a couple of days is the second handset from the Oppo brand. The Realme was officially established as a brand in May this year and the first handset from the company, the Realme 1 (review), managed to attract a lot of attention due to its power-packed features and an attractive design, available at an affordable price. And the corporate not just waiting for it has gone with its second iteration. Well, the device managed with top features than its predecessor Realme 1 like the trendy notch at the top, a dual camera and fingerprint sensor, all that for an affordable starting price of Rs 8,990.

The Realme 2 given a good try where it as fulfilled some of the missing features in Realme 1 but it is not at all up to the mark so here we give a detailed difference between two smartphones to figure out whether new offering manages to follow in the footsteps or not.

Design and build

Realme got a positive response for the diamond cut pattern on the first handset and the brand has kept the design on the back of the new phone almost similar to the original offering. But it is mostly plastic like Oppo Realme 1but somewhat better than the predecessor still not a scratch resistant. The frame is equally plastic and it’s interesting to see how Realme has worked toward giving it a curved design. while we still need to talk about the back of the phone where it is noticeably added a fingerprint sensor. The index finger lands comfortably on the sensor but interestingly, the module doesn’t feel very tangible. The Realme 2 got a matte-finish on its sides, it never feels slippery in the hand, despite the glass-sandwich design. The power button is located on the right side of the smartphone and the volume buttons are located on the left spine below the SIM-card slot.

Winner: None

Display:

The Realme 2 as said it housed with addition feature notch at the top. It flaunts a 6.2-inch HD+ IPS LCD display with an aspect ratio of 19:9. The screen is bigger with thin bezels on all sides a tiny chin at the bottom which results in a larger 81.2 per cent screen-to-body ratio. But notably, it disappointed us with a downgrade when compared to the debut offering from the brand as the Realme 1 sports a sharper full HD+ resolution. The newer iteration got a lower resolution of 720 x 1,520 pixels. which makes up for the next section.

Winner: Realme 1

Hardware:

The new handset got some interesting features under the hood. The Realme 2 is powered by Snapdragon 450 coupled with either 3GB or 4GB of RAM. There’s 32GB or 64GB of built-in storage — depending upon the RAM variant — which is further expandable via a microSD card. While the Realme 1 was hooked with an Helio P60 processor, which brought in some AI goodness. Now, the Snapdragon 450 is no slouch and has proved to be a popular choice for OEMs in this price range over the last year. And it is good enough for conducting moderate gaming sessions with no lag whatsoever since there is enough free memory to be utilised. To be said there is no match between Real me1 which runs on a much more powerful chip, increase memory and a larger internal storage. The refreshed model no here got the impressive performance it does feel like a step in the backward direction for the successor. To keep short, if you are looking for a smartphone for gaming, there are better options available out there.

Winner: Realme 1

Software:

If we talk about software, Both smartphones run on Android 8.1 Oreo-out of the box. Thanks to  Oppo’s newer ColorOS 5.1, which is surprising to see since Realme is now an independent brand. There is a Smart Assistant feature that provides you with a quick view of the important information from certain apps like weather, steps tracker, and provides an easy access to quick functions. Realme 2 got a score in its or offering a more refined UI like with top utility apps like app lock, kids space, and private features. Face recognition is still as fast as the Realme 1. You don’t necessarily need to head to Google Play and download third-party applications.

Winner: Realme 2

Cameras:

The most captivating thing what we see in Realme 2 is an optic department. Unlike Realme 1which sports a 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, the Realme 2 makes use of a 13MP+2MP dual rear camera setup at the back. Of the two lenses, the 13MP (f/2.2  aperture) sensor can be used on its own or with the 2MP depth sensing module which features Phase detection autofocus. Both devices get an 8-megapixel shooter with f/2.2 aperture. The camera app on the Realme 2 offers several camera modes, including Time-Lapse, Portrait, Sticker, and Panorama. There’s a dedicated option for HDR mode, available right from the home screen. The details of the images are much better than the old device.

Winner: Realme 2

Battery:

The Realme 1 which shipped with a 3,410mAh battery which lasts for a day in normal use now the new version fuelled with mammoth, 230mAh battery this time around. In regular usage, the Realme 2 managed to easily last for a day and a half. The smartphone just dropped down to 50 per cent levels in around 12 hours, which is extremely impressive by all means.

Winner: Realme 2

Verdict:

If you are looking stunning design phone at an affordable price then hands up to Realme 2 where it got a dual camera setup, a notched screen, stylish looks, with a massive battery which packs a decent specification but still it got a major challenge like its sibling. In terms of affordability, things get better for the Realme 2 and it comes across as a stand-out offering.
