RealMe launched a new phone named the RealMe 2 to take on Xiaomi offering of excellent specifications at an affordable price. Last year, the company launched RealMe1 and it did exceed expectations, packing some powerful hardware and good looks at a really competitive price tag. Compared to the predecessor, the RealMe 2 comes with a notch-style display, dual rear cameras, a fingerprint sensor, and a big battery. So, here is our first impression of RealMe 2.
RealMe 2 First Impressions: Better Than Redmi 6 Pro?
Design and Display
Realme 2 comes with the same design that we saw in the predecessor RealMe 1. The RealMe 2 has a glossy diamond-cut reflection on fiberglass back. The phone looks extremely well in the crowd and comes with diamond-red and diamond-blue variants. On the back of the phone, there is a fingerprint sensor. However, it is better to use a cover or case on the RealMe 2 as the phone is slippery and the ack of the phone is prone to fingerprint marks. Moreover, the RealMe 2 feels bulkier than its predecessor because of the large battery.
Performance and Battery
Coming to the performance of the RealMe 2, you can’t expect much from the device as it is powered by the SnapDragon 450 processor. The predecessor RealMe 1 sports an Helio P60 SoC, the performance on the RealMe 2 is average. It is a good device for moderate users and the device can manage most of the daily tasks. However, if you’re a gamer then this phone is not worthy. The RealMe 2 is powered by ColorOS 5.1 and it feels much smoother than before. The battery of the RealMe 2 is massive, and it should easily last for a day and a half with moderate to heavy usage.
Camera
Realme 2 acquires a dual camera setup on the back with 13MP and 2MP sensors. Up front, there is an 8MP camera for selfies and video calls. The cameras including both rear and front come with futures such as Portrait mode, depth effect. The rear camera of the phone is capable of taking decent pictures in bright outdoors. Although, it needs some improvements in details and colors.
Software
Realme 2 comes with an Android 8.1 Oreo and as we mentioned earlier, it features Oppo’s proprietary ColorOS 5.1 which offers better UI as well as minimum bloatware. Realme 2 also has multiple ways to use gesture navigations along with the option to unlock your phone using your face.
Final thoughts
Lastly, the Realme 2 carries some upgrades in terms of chipset, battery, the dual-camera setup as well as the notch. However, if you are a gamer or if you want a device for heavy multitasking then strictly don’t go for the RealMe 2. The RealMe 2 can be a better option for people who are impressed by the new notch design or need a large battery.
