Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro launched with Google’s custom-built Tensor SoC

Google unveiled the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro at its Pixel Fall Launch event. Google’s new Pixel phones come with a proprietary system-on-chip (SoC) called Tensor designed for better artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) performance results than the previous Pixel phones. 

Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro price, availability

Pixel 6 price starts at $599 (approx. Rs. 45,000), whereas the Pixel 6 Pro starts at $899 (approx. Rs. 67,500).

As far as colour options are concerned, users can choose from Kinda Coral, Sorta Seafoam, and Stormy Black color options for Pixel 6, and Cloudy White, Sorta Sunny, and Stormy Black are the color options for Pixel 6 Pro.

On October 28, Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro will go on sale in the US, and pre-orders begin today. The company has yet to reveal information regarding its availability in other markets. At this time, there is no information about the price and availability of the Pixel 6 in India.

Pixel 6 specifications

Pixel 6 has a 6.4-inch full-HD+ OLED display that offers a 1,080×2,400 pixels resolution, 90Hz refresh rate, a 20:9 aspect ratio, 441ppi of pixel density, and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protection. This phone comes equipped with Google’s Tensor SoC, 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM, and 128GB/256GB of storage. 

The device comes with two rear cameras, a 50-megapixel primary sensor with an f/1.85 wide-angle lens, and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide shooter. As part of the camera setup, you get laser detect autofocus (LDAF) and optical image stabilization (OIS). Additionally, the Pixel 6 has an 8-megapixel front-facing camera with an f/2.0 lens.

Later this year, Google will offer a feature called ‘Quick Tap to Snap’  that lets users capture Snaps for Snapchat even when the phone is not unlocked and is on ‘Camera Only’ mode. Additionally, Snapchat will offer augmented reality (AR) lenses to enhance shots with artefacts.

In terms of connectivity, the phone offers 5G, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth v5.2, GPS/AGPS, NFC, and a USB Type-C port. There is an in-display fingerprint sensor. Among the features of the Pixel 6 is Live Translate for messages and pictures that will work without the Internet.

It runs on Android 12. The Pixel 6 features a 4,614mAh battery that supports 30W wired fast charging and 21W wireless fast charging. With the Pixel 6, users can also wirelessly charge other devices through the Battery Share feature. The handset measures 158.6×74.8×8.9mm and weighs 207 grams.

Pixel 6 Pro specifications

The phone comes with a 6.7-inch QHD+ LTPO OLED display with a screen resolution of 1,440×3,120 pixels, up to 120Hz refresh rate, a 19.5:9 aspect ratio, 512ppi of pixel density, and a Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protection. Pixel 6 Pro also uses the same Tensor SoC as the regular Pixel 6. It comes with 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 128GB/256GB/512GB of UFS 3.1 internal storage.

Additionally, the phone features a triple rear camera setup with a 48-megapixel telephoto shooter, a 50-megapixel wide-angle camera, and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide shooter. The additional telephoto shooter on the Pixel 6 Pro boasts 20x Super Res Zoom (4x optical zoom). It has an 11.1-megapixel front-facing selfie camera, which has an f/2.2 lens for video chatting and selfies.

Pixel 6 Pro comes with Magic Eraser, Motion Mode, Real Tone, Face Unblur, and other custom camera features out-of-the-box. It will also get Quick Tap to Snap and other Snapchat features in the future.

Among the connectivity options are 5G, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth v5.2, GPS/ A-GPS, NFC, and a USB Type-C port. There is also an in-display fingerprint sensor. 

The Pixel 6 Pro features a 5,003mAh battery that supports 30W wired fast charging and 23W wireless fast charging. Users can also wirelessly charge other devices through the Battery Share feature. Pixel 6 Pro measures 163.9×75.9×8.9mm and 210 grams.
