With the Samsung initiation on the foldable phone, every Android brand is in the race to come up with foldable smartphones now its Oppos turn to reveal it. The Chinese handset maker Oppo’s product manager confirmed the same to Dutch tech site Tweakers that Oppo would be bringing a foldable smartphone to Mobile World Congress next February.
However, the details of its specs or even a release date is yet to be revealed, It seems that Oppo may follow a similar roadmap as to Samsung. The company might announce or tease the device on stage at MWC 2019 but won’t make it available to the public for some time.
It is inevitable that Oppo will join a number of phone makers who have decided foldable displays are the next big thing in mobile. Its been a year that Samsung’s foldable was rumoured where it finally showed off its first foldable with an Infinity flex display. It allows a tablet-sized device to folded in the form of a regular candy bar smartphone. ‘Infinity Flex’ appears to be the foundation for Samsung’s future smartphones. The smartphone is expected to go sale in March 2019 or something.
In the interview, it was further revealed that Oppo is also aiming to release a 5G phone in Europe, in the first half of 2019. There’s a smartphone with an in-screen camera in the works as well, but that likely won’t come out until 2020.
We have already seen reports about Huawei and LG have plans for their own foldable smartphones next year, and Samsung might shed more light on its Galaxy F smartphone at the same time as Oppo. Google is also working with foldable devices with official support in Android for their changing displays.
