Nokia 7.1 annouced with Snapdragon 636 SoC, 5.84-inch PureDisplay HDR screen and beautiful design

HMD Global announce its latest smartphone Nokia 7.1 yesterday at an event in London. As the name suggests the new device is the upgrade version of Nokia 7. This phone boasts a premium sleek design at an affordable price point.

The Nokia 7.1 looks similar to the Nokia 6.1 plus. The Finnish company launched the smartphone along side with two companion audio accessories – Nokia True Wireless Earbuds and Nokia Pro Wireless Earphones.

The smartphone flaunts a PureDisplay notched panel with 1080 x 2280 pixel resolution and a 5.84-inch diagonal. It’s protected by Gorilla Glass 3 and boasts HDR10 support which one impressive feature that ensures the higher contrast, and more vibrant colours. The display is HDR10-compliant and has a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio. And the device as a dedicated 16-bit engine that can convert SDR content to HDR in real-time.

The Nokia 7.1 drives by a Qualcomm’s mid-range Snapdragon 636 SoC paired with either 3 or 4GB of RAM coupled with 32 or 64GB of internal storage, respectively. And there is an option to expand the storage through a dedicated micro SD slot.

On the imaging duties, the device gets an 8MP f/2.0 selfie cam supporting AI-enhanced face unlock, while the back has a 12MP main shooter with f/1.8 aperture and a 5MP black and white camera. On the rear side, It boasts a Zeiss optics and several nifty software features like the “bothie” mode that lets you take stills or record videos using the back and front cameras at the same time. The front camera also comes with something the company called ‘3D Personas, which Nokia’s take on Animoji.

The device packs a 3,060 mAh battery supporting fast charging via the USB-C connector on the bottom of the device. The company claims the device get 50% charge in just 30 minutes.

Like other Nokia devices, the Nokia 7.1 also runs Android One operating system, which is currently based on Android Oreo, however, HMD Global promises to soon upgrade this to Pie. or connectivity, the smartphone includes, 4G VoLTE support, USB Type-C, the latest version of Bluetooth, among other things.

Pricing

As promised, the Nokia 7.1 will be available starting this month, but in select markets. The device comes I n variants, a 3 GB RAM and 32 GB storage variant, and the other with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of onboard storage. While the base variant at €299, the higher 4 GB RAM option will set you back by €349. That comes to about Rs 25,357 and Rs 29,598 respectively according to the current rupee rate.

The smartphone comes in two colour variants: Midnight Blue and Steel.
