Nokia 6.1 First Hands On Impressions

The Nokia 6 is marked as one of the Finnish giant’s grand comeback with an Android smartphone. While it was first limited to the China market only, and now the HMD Global later announced that it would make the Nokia 6 available across the globe which is priced at just Rs 15,000 in India, the smartphone featured good design and build, but the specifications weren’t good enough to match the competitors. Also, the overall experience was fairly decent.

The smartphone is available to purchase from largest e-commerce platform, Amazon India, as well as other offline retail outlets in the market.

A design you expect from Nokia

The front is dominated by a display of 5.5-inch full HD with the traditional 16:9 aspect ratio. Nokia is not following the current trend with tall displays, and you have to contend with thick bezels along the top and bottom.

Processor

Being a successor, there are few key changes in the new Nokia 6.1 as the smartphone is powered and supported by a Snapdragon 630 SoC compared to the Snapdragon 430 SoC on the Nokia 6. The new smartphone also comes with 4GB RAM and 64GB onboard storage, which is compared to 3GB RAM and 32GB of inbuilt onboard storage.

Camera

One of the other big change is that the 16-megapixel rear camera now comes with Carl ZEISS optics to help you capture clearer and sharper photos. While the Nokia 6 came with a micro USB port for charging and data transfer, the new smartphone comes with a reversible USB Type-C port. And lastly, the Nokia 6.1 comes with Android 8.1 Oreo out-of-the-box with an initiative of Android One program, and support for Project Treble to enable faster software updates.

Initial impressions

No doubt, the stock Android experience on the Nokia phones make them more desirable over devices with heavy custom UIs on them. Also, Nokia has a good reputation when it comes to rolling out timely software updates. However, the competitors that are priced less, offer more in terms of specifications.
