Many experts and analysts have predicted that Apple’s sales are weakening and the weak demand for the iPhone indicates the same. According to Consumer Intelligence Research Partners, the most affordable version of the iPhone, iPhone XR has attracted more Android users to the iPhone since last year.
The report claims that 16 percent of iPhone buyers upgraded to iPhone 30 days after iPhone XR was announced. This number was 12 percent last year after iPhone 8 and 8 Plus were launched in September 2017 and 11 percent when the iPhone X was unveiled in November 2017.
According to a CIRP report, almost a one-third of iPhone buyers purchased an iPhone XR. In the US, iPhone XR sales contributed for 32% of total iPhone sales, while iPhone Xs and XS Max sales contributed for 35% of total sales.
CIRP’s co-founder Mike Levin said, “Of course, Apple doesn’t just state plainly its launch strategy. But, based on the pricing and features, we can infer that Apple positioned the iPhone XR to appeal to potential operating systems switchers from Android.”
However, CIRP statistics cannot be used to conclude the success of the iPhone XR. This is because Apple has released a cheaper version of the iPhone this year.
