| By Shandilya

As like many Android legends, including LG who are working hard on Foldable phones which may arrive in the first half of 2019. The South Korean tech giant has already been granted patents for multiple foldable smartphone prototypes. Now the company had received a patent for yet an upgrade to the foldable smartphone from United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

Unlike the earlier patent, the company that showcased a device with two or three foldable screens but the new phone has a rollable display. While we look into the image the handset sports a rollable screen rolls inside a spindle when the smartphone is not in use. The other side of the display is attached to a cylindrical handle, which can be used to pull it out from the spindle. The spindle attachment on the left side of the screen is expected to contain the necessary hardware like the SoC, memory, motherboard, camera, battery, and other components of the device.

The device in the image seems to be having a large screen as it is rollable display it is very handy and could be the size of a tablet. Sadly, the patent revealed didn’t hints any details of its hardware internals and their functionalities.

It is worthnoting that a trade filing hints that the upcoming LG’s foldable smartphone could be called the Flex, Foldi, or Duplex. The company applied for these names at EUIPO (European Union Intellectual Property Office) in November. If the reports are to be believed, LG will showcase its first foldable smartphone at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in January next year.

But a new report came in the form of a tweet from @evleaks where he is saying that chances of LG showing off that foldable at CES have “plummeted.” Bloomberg is corroborating this report with a story of their own. He also adds that the firm is not interested in working with foldable smartphones like Samsung. However, working on TVs that can “roll up like posters.”The tweet didn’t added anything about tablets, which LG Display is allegedly working on with Lenovo.
