Main reason for the massive success of Reliance Jio in India has been their regular strategy of thinking big and delivering something that neither customers nor even competitors can ever imagine.
No doubt that technology is booming day by day but the internet frauds are becoming more prevalent since the world relies heavily on technology. Sadly, frauds are increasing rapidly in the name of Jio in India. Scammers and scamming websites are getting increasingly matured in their attempts to get your money or personal details.
From last few months, people are getting trapped easily by the website that trap victims by offering to “lease” out their land at exorbitant rents (Rs 15-35,000 per month) for setting up mobile communication towers, and also offer a sufficient one-time advance payment (Rs 10-25 lakh).
Here’s How Jio Fake Tower Scam Works
These scammers call people as the ‘Reliance Jio 4G Tower’ department or send out ‘lottery’ letters announcing the selection of their property for the towers, or send bulk SMSes or send out advertisements through newpapers as well.
These Jio Tower installation scammers have a bunch of fake websites and they are using the official logo, name of Reliance Jio and interestingly, some of them using the exact same colors of the original Jio website.
If you Google ‘Jio Tower installation’, it will list several fake websites. Even though it looks very identical to the original, they are fake sites fooling innocent people of their money through marketing techniques.
The fake website content is very well written and leaves no room for doubt. After the targeting the innocent victims, scamsters call and request personal documents such as PAN cards, Adhaar cards, and the victim is asked to pay a ‘small processing fee’, of approx. Rs. 10 – 50,000!
“Since the Reliance Jio users are struggling with data speed and network problem of Reliance Jio, the company Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited has decided to install more than 6,000 North Infratel across the country and shall shortly issue the detailed official guidelines to install Jio tower in your Plot, Rooftop, Field, Market etc, places (sic),” reads one of the fake ‘Jio Tower Installation’ websites.
Jio hasn’t made an official statement about fraud, but the company has warned people about fraud – through SMS communication, warning messages on their websites and public announcements in newspapers, etc.
Moreover, Jio has clearly mentioned that before giving money to any entity, the consumers must check their authenticity with regards to Telecom Service Provider (TSP) or Infrastructure Provider (IP-1) list, provided by the Govt. The entire list can be checked at www.dot.gov.in.
Besides, Jio has also stated that using Jio’s name to extract money from innocent citizens is a crime, and such criminals will be prosecuted.
