India’s cheapest mobile phone explodes: burns 60-year-old man to death

| By Shandilya

These days explosion of phones became quite common. Even we pay lots of bucks for the premium phones there are also on the same list. But this is shocking that an explosion of the phone caused the death of a person. Sadly this happened in India. A 60-year-old man, Kishore Singh who hails from a village called Netavalgarh Pachhli in Chittagong has died as a result of the explosion of his super-cheap Jio phone. Yes, you read right.

According to his wife, Kishore Singh, forgot to take his Jio phone out of his pocket when he slept, at 2:30 in the morning. She is as usual busy in doing morning chores she suddenly heard a loud noise and rushed to the spot where he was already on fire and was severely burned. He was rushed to the hospital where the doctor pronounced him dead on arrival.

The Jio phone is popular Common man phone which was launched in a “free mobile phone” program by Indian mobile network operator Reliance Jio, supported by the government and sold to the poor at almost free prices. Where Kishore phone costs just Rs 1,115 which he bought just a two months ago. It is unclear whether the phone has been repaired or if the battery has been replaced, but this possibility of this is very low considering the time of purchase. After the incident, most of the villagers immediately gave up the Jio phone and said that the quality was very poor. Asper a report the local authorities have commenced an investigation, but reliance didn’t respond up to now.

Incidents of mobile explosions not only seen in cheap phones but also premium phones. Recently we have seen the very popular case of Samsung Galaxy Note 7 which exploded in many cases which forced the company to recall the device at a huge cost. That means this is not at all a cheap phone. However, for our safety one should not keep your phone close to you while sleeping and should not leave charging overnight. Serious damages could result from such practices.
