Huawei’s first foldable smartphone was announced during the Mobile World Congress 2019 in Barcelona, Spain.in February. So far, the company has launched a few new smartphones and new Nova 5 series smartphones. While a report published earlier had claimed Huawei Mate X smartphone was all set to go on sale later this month i.e in June. But, the company delayed the smartphone’s sales probably to avoid the Samsung Galaxy Fold fiasco. Now, the Chinese smartphone maker Huawei has officially confirmed that the Mate X will debut in September 2019.
The President of Huawei’s Western Europe Region Vincent Pang has now confirmed that the company spent the last few months on improving the P-OLED screen on the Mate X to prevent it from facing problems that Samsung faced with its foldable device. Furthermore, he confirmed that the Huawei Mate X foldable smartphone will be launched in September and will be available in every country that has launched the 5G network. However, the device won’t be launched in the US as president of the United States Donald Trump banned Huawei in the country.
In terms of specifications, the Huawei Mate X 5G sports a 6.6-inch front screen with 19.5:9 aspect ratio and 2,480 x 1148 pixel screen resolution, a 6.38-inch rear display with a 25:9 aspect ratio and 2,480 x 892 pixel screen resolution, and an 8-inch tablet “FullView” screen with 8:7.1 aspect ratio and 2,480 x 2,200 pixel resolution that works when the smartphone is fully unfolded. It is powered by a HiSilicon Kirin 980 octa-core processor coupled with 8GB of RAM and 512GB onboard storage. The handset packs 4500 mAh with 55W Huawei SuperCharge support.
The camera unit in Huawei Mate X includes three sensors at the back. It consists of a 40MP primary camera with an f/1.8 aperture; a second 16MP ultra-wide-angle sensor with f/2.2 aperture; a third 8MP telephoto sensor with f/2.4 aperture. On the software front, the handset runs Android 9.0 Pie based EMUI 9.0.
