Huawei to Begin Manufacturing Smartphones in India from 2019

World’s second largest smartphone Maker, Huawei is planning to start manufacturing smartphones in India from next year. The company is planning to open 1,000 stores in India within next 2 to 3 years. Huawei is popular in India with their sub-brand Honor and earlier this week, they’ve launched a new mid-range phone named Honor 8X with great specification.

Huawei, endeavoring to attract more market and also its sub-brand Honor is accomplishing around 400 percent growth in sales revenues and is expecting to be the leading smartphone brand in India within 2021.

Currently, Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo companies are manufacturing their smartphones in India but they are limited to budget and mid-range phones only. The South Korean company, Samsung recently introduced their world’s second largest smartphone manufacturing factory in India and they are manufacturing their flagship phones in India.

“We look at India strategically and now intend to grow our presence through the launch of devices in the mid-and-premium-end of the market. Yes, definitely we plan to go for local manufacturing. We plan to do this in partnership with our manufacturing partner Flex that has a factory in Chennai (a city in eastern India),” said Huawei’s executive Xu to Times of India.

He also said that Huawei is planning to unveil the company’s other products such as personal computers and smart-watches in coming days.

“We initially plan to import these, but will not hesitate to look at local manufacturing once we start gaining in scale.”
