Let’s get into the Honor 8X first impressions:
Build, Design and Display:
The Honors usual trick to make the attention over it devices is through its design and gradient paint on its back panel. And when comes to a new device it is the bit similar to other mid-range devices from the company. The display extends all to the edges (except for the notch up top), while the rear panel has an attractive two-tone finish. What we got for review is blue colour and you can also choose the handset in other colours like black or purple. Adding to the charm is the fact that the glass bounces off light in different directions.
Up front, it has a massive 6.5-inch FHD+ IPS LCD display with a small notch up top, minimal bezels on either side and a rather small chin, giving the device a 91% screen-to-body ratio. Honor has used technology similar to the one used by Apple on the iPhone X in which the LCD connectors have been folded back behind the display instead of resting underneath it in order to get small bezels at the bottom. Honor has used technology similar to the one used by Apple on the iPhone X in which the LCD connectors have been folded back behind the display instead of resting underneath it.
In terms of buttons and ports, The dual camera module is situated in the top left corner of the back and there’s a circular fingerprint scanner conveniently placed in the centre of the back. The power button and the volume rocker are located on the right edge of the device, with the triple slot SIM card tray located on the left edge. Down on the bottom resides the single downward firing speaker, a micro USB port for charging and data syncing, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. It’s odd to see the brand continuing with a micro-USB port for charging and data transfers. But the company claims that including it was merely a cost-cutting measure.
With its 6.5-inch display this the one smartphone with biggest screens that available in the market. the design and build quality of the Honor 8X is quite impressive and if Honor prices it competitively then there’s absolutely no doubt that the device has the potential to take the mid-range smartphone market with rage. But one thing about the phone is to be quite heavy, but on the plus side, that lends it a solid in-hand feel.
Cameras
Much alike trending dual rear cameras in the market today, the Honor 8X features a dual camera setup on the back and a selfie shooter up front. And on the rear side, we can see the vertically stacked dual camera setup that consists of a 20-megapixel primary sensor and a 2-megapixel depth sensor, both with f/1.8 apertures. The single selfie camera has a 16-megapixel sensor with a f/2.0 aperture. As with previous models, the Honor 8X has AI enhancements for both the rear and front cameras. Like the previous devices, the Honor 8X features AI enhancements for both the rear and front cameras. Users can turn off the AI features when shooting if they prefer.
The Honor 8X also features portrait mode capabilities and the images captured by this mode are pretty good. The camera app on the device also features a Night mode which allows users to adjust the shutter speed and ISO to capture better low-light images. you can also get various modes like AR Lens, Light painting, etc.
Internals and Software
Under the hood, the device ticks with the Kirin 710 chipset, which is a 12nm SoC with two quad-core Cortex-A73 and Cortex-A53 clusters running at 2.2GHz and 1.7GHz respectively, depending upon the task at hand. The processor is paired with 4 gigs of RAM, which should ensure smooth performance. Taking care of your storage requirements is 64GB of memory, which can be topped up by another 400GB with the use of a microSD card option.
The device includes all the usual connectivity features, including 802.11 b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS, AGPS, Glonass and BeiDou for location tracking. Backing it all up is a respectable 3,750mAh battery which should easily last you a day with heavy use. The Honor 8X ships with the brand’s custom skin dubbed EMUI, which runs atop Android 8.1 Oreo.
Final Thoughts
The Honor 8X does have certain drawbacks, but it’s largely managed to impress us with its beautiful display and in its unique approach to design. The device looks quite promising and if Honor is able to price it under the Rs. 20,000 mark, then it definitely has the potential to become the next best mid-ranger. It is assured if it comes in above price range then it’ll definitely be squashed by more powerful devices like the Xiaomi Poco F1 and the Honor Play.
