HMD Global, the company which owns the Nokia smartphones, has got the “PureView” trademark back from Microsoft. According to the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) listing, the trademark owner has now been transferred from Microsoft to HMD Global on August 23.
To Look back on, The PureView debuted in 2012 and is being showcased the world at the MWC 2012 Where we saw some of the best camera phones from the old Nokia launch with PureView branding. These included the legendary Nokia 808 PureView with its 41-megapixel camera, and a handful of Nokia Lumia devices like Lumia 1020 with a 41 MP camera. which used the PureView branding and technology to boost camera capabilities.
We might expect some more Nokia phones with PureView branding in the near future besides, Pureview is in hands of HMD Global. We may expect that the upcoming smartphone Nokia 9 could astonish us with its rebranded PureView. But this is to be taken as a pinch of salt. As there is no official word from the company regarding the usage of the PureView trademark.
An earlier report from 2012 when Tech2 had a hands-on experience with the Nokia 8 PureView, this is what was said about the camera, “The camera and the optics on the PureView are nothing that you will find on your existing smartphone. In a time gap of 0.09 seconds between two snaps, the dedicated GPU was working like a charm behind the scenes.”
HMd also owns some other brands like Asha and Xpress-On. While the company didn’t use the Asha brand at least once, where Xpress-On brand has been used only for the interchangeable back cover for Nokia 1 phone. what we conclude here is that HMD owning the PureView brand doesn’t mean that the corporate necessarily use the same for its future innovations.
What we recently heard from a report is that HMD could use Light’s Penta-lens camera setup on its mobile devices, there may be the chance that PureView brand will debut with that Penta-lens device. If HMD uses PureView brand known for its monster camera that makes the best camera experience then it might come in a circular setup, as some early schematics suggested back at the beginning of 2018.`
