As per a report from 9to5Google, the tech giant’s Hangouts for consumers will be shutting down in 2020.
This news was especially expected as very nearly a year prior, Google basically halted the improvement on the application. 2019 will be the last year for every one to use their most preferred talk application.
9to5Google said that “based on a source familiar with the product’s internal roadmap, Google Hangouts as a consumer product will come to an end in 2020”.
As of now, the Hangouts is a standout amongst the most conspicuous chat alternatives in Gmail on the web, and the application for the for the service also exists on the Google Play Store.
As a replacement of Gchat, Hangouts was launched by Google in 2013. However, the app hasn’t had a successful run in the mobile chatting applications where WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Snapchat and others are in a close race for the top spot.
“Last spring Google announced its pivot for the Hangouts brand to enterprise use cases with Hangouts Chat and Hangouts Meet, so the writing has been on the wall for quite some time regarding the Hangouts consumer app’s demise,” 9to5Google reported.
