Coolpad to Launch Cheapest 5G Smartphone ‘Coolpad Legacy 5G’

Chinese smartphone maker Coolpad is launching a cheapest ever 5G smartphone, dubbed as Coolpad Legacy 5G phone. The company has announced the Coolpad Legacy 5G at CES 2020, will cost just $400 (approx. Rs 28,800) when it goes on sale. Considering the price for the 5G phone, the upcoming Coolpad Legacy 5G will be the cheapest 5G-enabled smartphone in the market. As per the CNET report, the Coolpad Legacy 5G will be available for purchasers through Coolpad, Amazon and other US retailers for just $400 (approx. Rs 28,800). The smartphones operate on a sub-6GHz spectrum, which makes it compatible with T-Mobile and AT&T’s 5G networks in the US. Other rural carriers such as Sprint will be compatible with the phone.

For the cost-cutting, Coolpad used a plastic frame instead of metal seen on premium 5G as well as the 4G flagships. The phone will have a 6.53-inch Full HD+ IPS LCD display with waterdrop notch and HDR10 support. Under the hood, there will be a Qualcomm Snapdragon 765 SoC paired with 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage. In terms of optics, it will pack a 48-megapixel primary camera and an 8-megapixel secondary wide-angle camera. Upfront, it will come equipped with a 16-megapixel selfie shooter with a fixed focus.

The handset will measure 165 x 77 x 9.5 mm and weighs 195 grams. Software-wise, the Legacy 5G runs Android 10 and the company is promising monthly security updates. This 5G device will include a 3.5mm headphone jack and audio tuned by THX. On the rear, there will be a fingerprint sensor. Powering the phone is a 4,000mAh battery with 18W fast charging support.
