Black Shark 3 could be the first phone to feature 16GB RAM

Last year’s Mi 9 Explorer Edition is the world’s first 12GB RAM phone that was mass-produced. Soon, 12GB RAM became pretty common on flagship smartphones and many smartphone makers introduced phones with 12GB of RAM. Now, it looks like 16GB RAM will soon become a new standard in 2020. And the crown for the world’s first phone with 16GB RAM could go to a new phone from Xiaomi’s sub-brand Black Shark.

GizmoChina spotted a variant of the Black Shark 3 with 16GB RAM on the MITT. As it was listed on MIIT, we might be looking at an imminent launch. An earlier report revealed that the phone will support 5G. 

Now, a tipster revealed that the forthcoming Black Shark 3 will launch with the massive 16GB of RAM. According to the tipster, that would potentially make the gaming smartphone the first phone to have such a large RAM.

The forthcoming Black Shark 3 will be the successor of last year’s Black Shark 2. To recap, Black Shark 2 sports a 6.39-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display with 1080×2340 pixels resolution and 19.5: 9 aspect ratio. In terms of optics, there is a dual-camera setup on the back comprising of a 48MP primary camera with f/1.75 aperture and a 12MP secondary camera with f/2.2 aperture. It also comes with a 20MP front camera with an f/2.0 aperture for selfies.

Under the hood, it is powered by the Snapdragon 855 processor coupled with an Adreno 640 GPU. Black Shark 2 also has an in-display fingerprint sensor and backed by a 4,000mAh battery. The connectivity features of the smartphone include  4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth v5.0, GPS/ A-GPS, and USB Type-C port. It also comes with Gravity Sensor, Ambient Light Sensor, Proximity Sensor, Gyroscope, Compass, Fingerprint Sensor and Force Touch Sensor.
