Mobile World Congress is an unmissable event if you’re into new smartphones, mobile tech, and AI. Many smartphone makers and other electronic giants come at a place to showcase their new devices. As usual, loads of new phones were announced on the Mobile World Congress 2019 event in Barcelona, from flagships like the Samsung Galaxy S10, Nokia 9 PureView, foldable phones like Huawei Mate X to affordable phones like Nokia 3.2.

Here’s a closer look at the best smartphones that grabbed our attention in MWC 2019.

Samsung Galaxy S10

The Samsung Galaxy S10 is likely to be the most popular handset from MWC 2019, the latest entry in a range of phones that arguably only has the iPhone for competition.

It’s like the Samsung Galaxy S10 but with more of almost everything – more screen at 6.1 inches, more cameras as there’s a triple camera on the back, more RAM at 8GB, a bigger battery at 3,400mAh and more storage, with up to 512GB built-in. It features Infinity-O display that includes a punch-hole to house the front-facing camera.

Samsung Galaxy S10 comes with a fast, accurate and most reliable Qualcomm ultrasonic fingerprint scanner. It is equipped with the triple camera setup at the back where one is a 12-megapixel sensor with f/2.4 aperture (telephoto lens), the other is a 12-megapixel sensor with dual aperture and wide-angle lens. The third is an ultra-wide angle lens with 16-megapixel resolution and field of view of 123-degrees. The cameras support 2X optical zoom, AI scene detection, and super slow-motion video recording.

Nokia 9 PureView

Finnish smartphone maker finally unveiled the much-awaited Nokia 9 PureView smartphone. The handset is backed by the Snapdragon 845 SoC processor which works alongside 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Photography-buffs will also appreciate the presence of a triple-camera setup at the back, comprising of five rear cameras with Zeiss certified lenses, which are joined by three 12-megapixel monochrome sensors and two 12-megapixel RGB sensors. Up front, there is a 20-megapixel selfie shooter.

The smartphone features a 5.99-inch Quad-HD+ (1440×2960 pixels) POLED screen with 18.5:9 aspect ratio and an in-display fingerprint sensor. It is backed by 3,320mAh battery with wireless charging support.

Huawei Mate X

Chinese smartphone manufacturer Huawei unveiled their first foldable phone to counter Samsung’s Galaxy Fold. It was the main attraction of the launch event. Huawei Mate X comes with two FullView Display panels in 6.6-inch and 6.38-inch sizes that jointly bring an 8-inch OLED FullView Display panel when unfolded — without any display notch. The device, when folded, offers a 6.6-inch display experience at the front with 1148×2480 pixels and 19.5:9 aspect ratio.

At the back, the Huawei Mate X has a 6.38-inch display with 892×2480 pixels resolutions and 25:9 aspect ratio. The back display can also be used to capture selfies. When unfolded, the 8-inch display has a 2480×2200 pixels resolution along with an 8:7.1 aspect ratio.

Huawei Mate X is fuelled by a HiSilicon Kirin 980 SoC, paired with 8GB RAM. There is also the Huawei Balong 5000 5G chipset that comes as the world’s first 7nm modem, capable of delivering up to 4.6/ 2.5Gbps downlink/ uplink speeds on Sub-6GHz. On mmWave, the chipset can deliver up to 6.5/ 3.5Gbps downlink/ uplink speeds. There is also a quad 5G antenna on the device.

Oppo 5G phone with 10X Lossless Zoom

Officially, the Chinese smartphone maker Oppo has become the next Android brand to announce a 5G phone for 2019. At an MWC 2019 press conference, the company said its first 5G device will be powered by the latest Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 SoC and X50 modem support 5G networks. This will be the world’s first 10x lossless zoom camera on a smartphone equipped with a triple-lens camera consists of a 48MP main everyday shooter, followed by a 16mm 120-degree ultra-wide lens, and a telephoto lens. Together, triple camera setup will cover a range of 16mm to 160mm, letting users take amazing photos without the fear of loss of quality when zooming.

Nokia 4.2 and Nokia 3.2

Nokia managed to cover the entire price bracket with its MWC offerings just like last year, with two new affordable Android One smartphones, Nokia 4.2 and Nokia 3.2.

The Nokia 4.2 comes with a 5.7-inch HD+ display with a 19:9 aspect ratio. On the back, the device has a fingerprint sensor. The device features a 13MP + 2MP dual rear camera setup, and a 13MP selfie camera. It ships with the latest Android Pie software. Under the hood, the phone is fueled by Snapdragon 439 chipset paired with 2GB or 3GB of RAM. Internal storage is at 16GB and 32GB, respectively.

The Nokia 3.2 sports a 6.2-inch HD+ display with a 19:9 aspect ratio. For photography, the Nokia 3.2 comes with a single 13MP camera with flash and a 5MP selfie camera.

The Nokia 3.2 is powered by a Snapdragon 429 chipset paired with up to 3GB of RAM and up to 32GB of internal storage. It packs a 4,000mAh battery.
