Telecom operators’ association COAI (The Cellular Operators Association of India) are demanding a ban on the upcoming science fiction movie 2.0 starring Superstar, Rajinikanth & Akshay Kumar stating that the film is promoting anti-scientific attitude towards mobile services, towers, and mobile phones.
According to a media agency report, COAI complained to the CBFC (Central Board of Film Certification,) and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting requesting to ban the movie release trailers, teasers, and promotional videos immediately. They also asked to hold the movie public screening until the issue is resolved.
COAI mentioned, “The movie falsely depicts mobile phones and mobile towers as harmful to living creatures and the environment including birds and human beings.”
“We have requested that the exhibition of the movie be suspended in the meantime,” COAI Director General Rajan S Mathews said in the statement. The COAI has also alleged that the content of film is against the public interest, as it constitutes offenses under Section 268 (public nuisance), Section 505 (statements conducing to public mischief) and Section 499 (defamation) of the Indian Penal Code and “stands to prejudice the ongoing proceedings before the Supreme Court over whether or not mobile towers have any harmful effects”.
The movie is scheduled to release worldwide on 29th November. 2.0 is the sequel of the movie Robot starring Rajinikanth and Aishwarya Rai. The film is directed by Shankar with a whopping budget of over Rs 500 crore, another interesting fact is that this is India’s first film to be shot with 3D cameras directly.
