Apple Plans to Improve the Battery Life of Upcoming iPhones – Here’s How

| By DWR Editor

While Apple iPhone products are thought to be outstanding products amongst other items on the planet, there have been a few users who have consistently grumbled about their battery life. Which is all well and good, with regards to battery performance, the iPhones are not driving the race for the present. However, it would appear that Apple may before long tackle this issue with another innovation, for iPhones as well as for Apple Watch also.

The Cupertino-based firm, according to a report by IHS Markit, may use a new kind of backplane TFT. The firm is said to have applied for three different patents on LTPO or low-temperature polycrystalline oxide over the course of years. The first one was spotted in 2014 titled ‘Organic light-emitting diode displays with semiconducting-oxide and silicon thin-film transistors’, while the second one was seen the next year with the title ‘Displays with silicon and semiconducting oxide thin-film transistors.’ The third one was seen this year with the title ‘Methods of protecting semiconductor oxide channel in hybrid TFT process flow.’

For those who are unaware of backplane technology, it splits with the screen and the pixels of the smartphone. the backplane of a smartphone turns off the individual pixels and plays an essential role in identifying a device’s display resolution, refresh rate, and power consumption. However, the OLED screen in the iPhone X is able to preserve battery life and radiate a brighter display outdoors, it still uses LTPS TFT technology or low-temperature polysilicon thin-film transistors as the standard backplane technology.

So, in upcoming years, MacRumors reports that IHS in under the feeling that Apple could change to LTPO TFT or low-temperature polycrystalline oxide for the backplane upcoming iPhone models. As IHS believes that LTPO TFT can save 5 percent to 15 percent in power consumption compared to LTPS.

Although, IHS did not remark on whether the upcoming iPhones would include a LPTO TFT backplane innovation.
