Huawei recently launched a new phone named Honor 8X to compete against mid-range smartphones including Moto One Power, RealMe 2 Pro, Zenfone Max Pro M1, and Redmi Note 5 Pro. The Honor 8X seems to be the powerful, gorgeous Android phones at this price, with a tall screen. The Honor 8X is priced at Rs 14,999 for the 4GB RAM, 64GB storage version, Rs 16,999 for the 6GB RAM, 64GB storage version and Rs 18,999 for the 6GB RAM, 128 GB storage option.

The new Honor 8X has quite an impressive hardware package and the shiny glossy back and decent cameras. For now, the device seems like a very promising device at this price segment. The device looks to fill a gap for those looking for an affordable alternative to the top-end devices on the market. Here are 4 reasons why you should consider Honor 8X over its competitors.

Design

Honor is continuing the trend of the notch and the device acquires a normal notch instead of waterdrop notch. But the normal notch of the Honor 8X isn’t looking bad. The screen size of the device is very big compared to the other smartphones in the similar price segment. The display is very crisp and gorgeous to look at and use. On the rear side, there’s dual-rear camera module along with the LED flash and Honor branding. The fingerprint scanner that sits at the center of the phone. Huawei has also included the 3.5mm headphone jack which is at the bottom of the device along with MicroUSB charging port, microphone, and speaker grille.

Display

The Honor 8X comes with a 6.5-inch Full HD+ IPS notched display with a new 19.5:9 ratio. The screen has a 2.5D curved glass protection. You can see a notch on top and a very slim chin bezel, allowing a 91 percent screen-to-body ratio. The display comes with a 1080×2340 pixels resolution.

Performance

The device holds some assuring hardware under the hood. The Honor 8X is powered by the company’s own 12nm Kirin 710 Soc processor coupled with up to GB RAM and up to 128 GB of internal storage. This Kirin 710 SoC with 64-bit architecture, comprises of 4x ARM Cortex-A73 @ 2.2GHz and 4x ARM Cortex-A53 @ 1.7GHz CPU and an ARM Mali G51 MP 4 GPU. On the performance side, we can expect the same level of performance you would otherwise get on a high-end smartphone.  Honor 8X is running EMUI 8.2 based on Android 8.1 Oreo.

Photography

On the rear of the Honor 8X has a dual-camera setup, a 20MP primary camera sensor along with the 2MP depth camera sensor with an aperture of f/1.8. On the front, there’s a 16MP camera for taking selfies. The dual-lens setup of Honor 8X is capable enough to take good shots, but which seemed to oversaturate with bright colors. Front cameras of the Honor 8X takes decent selfies compared to this price segment phones. The Honor 8X is yet another Huawei’s device to boast AI-enhanced image recognition, which can apparently distinguish between 500 different shooting scenarios and automatically apply one of 22 categorized scene settings. The camera of the device also features a ‘Night Mode’ which can take some impressive looking night time pictures.
